The Voodoo That Roo Do

Bonnaroo ’09  -

June 12th, 2009

You’re sunburned, broke, dehydrated, and covered in muddy cowshit. Your pot is wet, you lost a shoe, and you think that chick Willow you met last night might actually be a dude. Then you realize, what’s the big deal? It’s not like Creed or Nickelback are on the bill, right? Effin’ A, brother! Life is good.

It’s Bonnaroo 2009, and if you can’t stand the heat, get the hell out of Manchester, Tennessee. What the media calls a relaxing weekend of music and art, past fest veterans will tell you is a four-day survival challenge. Thousands will have a good time, while many more thousands won’t remember the phenomenal time they had.

Music + Summer = Awesome!

Numbers

34

Number of acts that played Woodstock in 1969. This year, more than 100 acts will play Bonnaroo on six different stages. That means having to make some hard decisions about whom to see and whom to miss. The easiest way to handle this dilemma: determining which stage is in closest proximity to the shitters and the top heavy granola chick wearing nothing but body paint.  “Ooh, please miss, keep your arms down. Those squirrel pelts are stunting your game.”

Quote

I smell hippies.

Beck, during his live set at Bonnaroo in 2006

Words
Bonnaroo

noun.     1. New Orleans Ninth Ward slang term, generally meaning "a really good time." It combines "bon," meaning "good" in French, and "aroo," from the English "around," translating to "the best around.”

Fact

The fuzz are at it early this year: Police in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, seized 35 pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms during an arrest yesterday. The four hopeful concertgoers had baked the triptastic fungi into 500 peanut-butter cups. How do you eat your Reese’s?
