Aerosmith Breakup -
November 11th, 2009
The relationship proved too toxic for one of the twins after all. After 40 years of fronting Aerosmith, lead singer Steven Tyler is quitting just as the band was beginning to hit their stride. Joe Perry and band-mates are actively looking for a replacement, while Tyler will be working on "brand Tyler." The rift is believed to have started after Tyler fell off the stage in August after this ADD-like jig, causing the band to cancel numerous tour dates. It’s not unusual for the lead singer of a band to bail and try his hand at a solo career, but it normally occurs before his AARP subscription kicks in.
UPDATE: Apparently, Tyler and Perry worked out their differences. Tyler appeared on stage in NYC last night with the Joe Perry Project, and announced that he would not be leaving Aerosmith. Hooray, we can’t wait to hear “Dude Looks Like A Lady” next summer at the state fair.

140M

Records sold worldwide by Aerosmith, 66.6M of which were sold in the US. That’s not a bad pile of wax for the "bad boys from Boston", but not quite as much as Canadian songbird Celine Dion, who has sold over 200M records. |

Tell us about it, bro. We had to start combing our hands after watching Alicia Silverstone and your daughter Liv in your video for "Crazy."

abdicate

verb. 1. To give up a right, position, or power.
Quit Aerosmith? Steve, don’t you know how bad the job market is out there for dudes over 50?

When Tyler first began performing in the early ’70s, he wore a macramé shirt and a scarf. After repeated use, they wore out, and Tyler tied them on his mike stand for good luck. But he kept them there not just because they looked cool; he also had pockets sewn into the scarves so that he could stash Quaaludes and Tuinals. The scarf-covered mic stand soon became Tyler’s trademark.

The best rock-and-roll bands are a combustible mix of fragile egos, unlimited creativity, and breathtaking talent. Toss in some sex, drugs, and fights along the way, and we think you’ll agree it’d make one hell of a book. Walk this way, baby.
