TTP | Three Nights with Umphrey’s McGee
November 2nd, 2009
Jam band, improv prog, weed rock … Umphrey’s McGee could not care less what scene or genre you tag ‘em with as long as they have a stage to play on and share the music they love. With influences ranging wider than a fat chick’s tramp stamp, these six cats lay down more tasty licks than a sweaty hooker working over a Popsicle. Wii, pizza, movie night? All great ways to spend New Year’s … if you’re seven. It’s a short ride on Spaceship Earth, brothers and sisters. If you’re in Chicago, do yourself a massive favor and ring in the New Year cavorting to the sonic tapestry laid down by Umphrey’s.

Staggering number of live shows the band played in 2002. That is enough backstage deli trays to cater the opening of nearly two-and-a-half Super Wal-Marts (or one regular-sized Wal-Mart if we’re talking the Midwest). |

My job in this life is to give people spiritual ecstasy through music. In my concerts, people cry, laugh, dance. If they climaxed spiritually, I did my job.

noun. 1. An interactive audience improvisation exercise where the band performs a jam based on suggestions from the audience.
All fun and games until some asshole yells "Freebird!" and is shot on site.

The historic Aragon Ballroom in Chicago played host to the top entertainers during the big band era: Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, and Glenn Miller, to name just a few. In order to support the large crowds, the dance floor had springs and felt cushions beneath it. As music changed over the years the ballroom started hosting numerous events (roller skating, boxing, disco, etc.). In the 1970’s, they began booking hard rock acts, bringing in tougher crowds. The venue was then nicknamed the "Aragon Brawlroom."

Jam-mates: shared moments on stage
| Buddy Guy | World famous Grammy-winning blues guitarist. |
| Huey Lewis | No News that day, just Huey. |
| Les Claypool | Honestly, who doesn’t like Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver? |
| Phil Lesh | We’re Grateful he’s not Dead. |
| Bela Fleck | He’s almost as good as the inbred kid in Deliverance. |
