TTP | For Crying Out Loud
South Park -
April 23rd, 2010
While most Muslims are known for their great sense of humor and c'est la vie attitude, their more extreme brethren tend to get a little testy if so much as a chuckle is heard within ten clicks of Mecca.
So what to do after a pants-shittingly hilarious episode of South Park airs, which depicts the Prophet Mohammed wearing a bear suit? Well, if you’re friends with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, you ask if there is any cool shit of theirs they’d like to give you before some cat wrapped in explosives "visits" the office. South Park has always been an equal opportunity offender. We give them props for not discriminating.

Emmy nominations South Park has received. Eight of these were for Outstanding Animated Series (For Programming Less Than One Hour), of which the show won three (2005, 2006, 2009). The other nomination (and win) was for Outstanding Animated Series (For One Hour or More) for their Imaginationland trilogy of episodes in 2008. |

So many tangles in life are ultimately hopeless that we have no appropriate sword other than laughter.

fard (Arabic)
|
noun. an Islamic term which denotes a religious duty.
Used incorrectly, and more than likely in a blasphemous way: "Did you fard?" "No, I shit my pants then bailed out of Kaaba early to play some golf."

Sean Penn wrote an angry letter to Trey and Matt regarding his portrayal in their film Team America: World Police. The actor rants about his political causes and closes with "All best, and a sincere f*ck you."
Is anyone else completely bummed out that this is the same cat that played Jeff Spicoli twenty-eight years ago?

Why So Serious?
| 1988 | Author Salman Rushdie's novel The Satanic Verses is published. Believed to depict Mohammed negatively, the book is banned, and a fatwa is issued. Dude goes into hiding and re-emerges years later to bang Padma Lakshmi. Delicious! |
| 1998 | Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani of Iraq issued a fatwa prohibiting a University of Virginia professor from teaching Islam, due in part to the professor’s acceptance of religious pluralism in the Muslim world. |
| 2004 | Filmmaker Theo Van Gogh's short film Submission depicts the abuse of women in Islam. He is killed by Muslim extremists. Apparently, the assassins rudely kept their cell phones on during the film. |
| 2005 | Danish Newspaper Jyllands-Posten publishes what is believed to be offensive cartoons called “The Face of Muhammed.” All hell breaks loose with investigations, death threats, and boycotts. |
| 2010 | Popular Islamic prop comedian Fez Top gets blown to bits after a roast beef sandwich joke goes horribly awry during Eid Al-Adha. Kidding on this one … we hope. |

Sometimes laughter is the only thing that can get a person through. Never lose your sense of humor. Just be prepared for those that don’t get the joke. |
