Thinking About … Apple

  • BNW

Man, after reading today’s linked article about organ harvesting and earlier reading a piece on a South African mob killing, I sure am glad that I live in the good ole USA!!!

Years ago, I spoke with someone from Sony who admitted that in the electronics trade in general (not just Apple), the replacements of…whatever…are two generations ahead.u00a0 Two!u00a0 That goes for computers, video game consoles, etc.u00a0 Basically, that means that not only is theu00a0 iPadu00a0 3 ready to roll out of production…but, so is the iPad 4!u00a0 They’re purposely being held back until the frenzied consumption of the iPad 2 dies down.u00a0 Again, this goes for phones, your Playstation/X-Box/Wii, and so on.nnNice, huh?u00a0 nnThink about that for a second.u00a0 The “state-of-the-art” electronics that you’ll be shelling out hundreds of dollars for this coming Christmas is already an obsolete piece of crap.

If this is true then why would a vendor not release the next version to leapfrog the competition? There is usually a clear leader in most categories. I can see how the leader would follow this strategy however I would think that the #2 in the space would skip a version in this case to tray & regain marketshare.

What I’m thinking is that the prototype for the iPads 3 & 4 are developed & preparing for production. the iPad 4 is probably being programmed / the iPad 3 probably beta testing. That’s my take on it anyways. I realise though that this still means things are obsolete by the time you take them home. Why sell something permanent like your other kidney?

Wow.u00a0 This Chinese kid sold a kidney for a product which could be implicated in the death of many of his countrymen…u00a0 Steve Jobs must be loving it, though.u00a0u00a0
