Thinking About … Charlie Sheen

  • Dr. Pretentious

aw man – you HAD to mention those vuvuzelas again? Anyway, let’s all hope Charlie gets another raise.

Why in the hell did I just waste my time w/ 3 minutes of Charlie Sheen questions? Lawd have mercy…slap myself in the face.

Look…Crazy is one thing. When it comes to celebrities, I almost EXPECT a little eccentricity. It’s probably impossible to live in the fishbowl of constant scrutiny and NOT develop a few quirks. When you can’t even go to the bloody supermarket without running into paparazzi, off-kilter fans and/or people who want to leech off of your fame or cash, it’s more likely than not inevitable. nnThat said, Charlie Sheen is nuttier than squirrel shit. He’s not even fun to watch from a schadenfreude perspective anymore. It’s become nothing short of uncomfortable to watch him undergo such a public meltdown of narcissism, self-abuse and delusion. nnEven so…I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until recently, because (the whole cast and crew of his show aside) at least he didn’t seem to be going out of his way to HURT anyone besides himself. But in one of his recent radio rants, he made a point to refer to “Two and a Half Men” creator Chuck Lorre by his birth name, “Haim Levine.” This doesn’t sit right with me. It was the tone, he used, really. The implied “air quotes.” Suggesting that a Jewish upbringing is an embarrassing secret someone should be ashamed of? JUST anti-Semitic enough for me. So much so I sincerely hope anyone who interviews his attention-whore ass from now on refers to HIM as “Carlos Estevez” just to remind him that Lorre isn’t the only one who adopted a less ethnic “nom de showbiz.” nn(Not to mention that he REALLY must be on something if he thinks being Jewish in Hollywood is a career detriment.)

I am a big fan of the show. And, I don’t know if I will continue watching if they allow that train wreck to come back; particularly if they give him a raise and/or force out the show’s CREATOR in order to do so.nnThe world survived the re-casting of Darren on Bewitched, it can survive the re-casting of Charlie Harper on 2 1/2 Men. (Please, please, please replace him with Robert Downey Jr.).

  • Dr. Pretentious

uh-uh. No way – Dick Sargeant TOTALLY sucked balls over Dick York. A replacement for Charlie if the community isn’t able to rally around his plight – I’d say Alan Rickman, David Cross, or maybe Richard E. Grant.

It would be great if Charlie has managed to “will himself sober”, he could have a new multi-million dollar career teaching others how to do it.nBut seriously very few people have managed to go cold turkey from any addiction, let alone multipal addictions and stay sober.nHe also looks like he could be the new poster boy for Bi-Polar disorder.nnI have always enjoyed his work and really hope he can survive everything thats is going on.nReplacing him on the show would never work, he is Charlie Harper. The show would not survive the change, fans would not accept a NEW Charlie. I know I wouldn’t watch it anymore.nnRobert Downey Jr. was on the fast road to hell but he managed to turn himself around, a couple trips to jail might have had something to do with it, hopefully Charlie can too before its too late.

Great summation. I agree totally. Where would most of these “Hollywood Knights” be without help from so many in the entertainment industry (“industry?) who are Jewish? That screwball, drunk, Mel Gibson is a prime example. After his production of “The Gospel According to Mel” his true colors came out. A lot of people lost all respect for him after his drunken arrest and tirade years ago. I hope something nice happens for the schmuck……like maybe his asshole growing together. Poor Charlie Sheen looks like he might wake up and never realize what an ass he has made of himself. Do you think that he just did not get enough hugs growing up? Truthfully, he displays all of the signs of a meth head and that is a shame. There is little help for him. Robin Williams went through years of cocaine abuse and appeared to get his act together. Well if any of you saw him the other night on David Letterman, you might have your doubts. Robert Downey, Jr. appears to be okay, but I have my doubts. The paparazzi may play a role in the Hollywood mentality, to some degree, but the “adoring public” plays an even greater role. We have helped to elevate these jerks to hero status and they are ANYTHING but. The heroes are the everyday people who actually serve our Country from the Military, the Police, Firemen, right on over to the Social Workers who give of themselves for all of us. I am sorry, but I don’t care if Charlie Sheen loses everything but his life…….he needs to be brought back to reality, and that does not look very likely.nnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Charlie’s in BIG trouble with his addictions. I hope and pray that he gets help before he kills himself or others.

Once upon a time (say, around our grandparents era) we were content to have our movie and TV stars simply be attractive and a bit scandalous. Face it…these days, the public practically demands that our celebrities be insane and self-destructive. Gibson, Cruise, Spears, Quaid (Randy…not Dennis): we all love a good train wreck. Be honest; was David Hasselhoff anywhere near as interesting until we all saw him drunkenly eating a cheeseburger off the floor?nnFear not. By this time next year, Jeffrey Ross will be roasting Sheen live on Comedy Central.

“Sheen’s delusional patter and incomprehensible zingers are a treat compared to the pap written for him on Two and a Half Men.” That put me in tears. Thank you TTP.

He’s hilarious. Take everything he says with a grain of salt. He can do as he pleases. His role in Life is as an entertainer. Nothing more. He is at his peak right now. As Hunter S. Thompson said, “… go to the grave full speed, kicking up asphalt as you fall…” Life!
