Listen…I don’t have a problem with cheerleaders. I really don’t. Let ‘em head out there and pretend they matter, selling that bizarre whore/Madonna “sexy but wholesome” thing they’ve been trying to corner the market on for years. But ELEVEN? Christ. nnIt’s creepy enough when a grown man wants his legal sweetie to wear a rah-rah getup to the bedchamber, so he can pretend he’s banging all the snooty bitches who wouldn’t give him the time of day during his pimply period. But take it from a guy who was a founding staff member of Dateline NBC’s favorite anti-predator watchdog group, and who has personally chatted with hundreds of would-be predators, even testifying against a dozen or so who are currently in prison: Pedophiles do NOT need the encouragement. They really, really don’t. So if you’re a parent, you might want to at LEAST wait until she’s old enough for a damned learners’ permit before you squeeze her into a skirt so short she can’t even bend over to pick up a dropped pencil without turning 3rd period English class into an impromptu gynecological exam.

OK, while I agree with your BASIC PREMISE, and your analogy is true, you miss the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FACT: the girl is 11 years old! ELEVEN! No wonder our society is tainted with the likes of Lyndsey Lohan, Brit, Paris & now Miley! Let them grow up first. Of course, the standard answer to ‘what ios a virgin’ is “an ugly 11 yr. old”, … BUT.

I agree wholeheartedly! The purpose of cheerleaders at that level of play in to excite the crowd, predominantly the parents of the players and cheerleaders, so the players get fired up by the roar of the crowd, not the comparatively tiny whimper the six or seven cheerleaders will make. Keep the excessive temptation away from the predators and would-be predators that flock to such events.nnAs for the dude that wrote the original piece, listen partner, if, as an 11-year old football player, you were paying more attention to the cheerleaders shaking their “tail feathers” and not to your game play, I’m 100% sure that the kid that didn’t want to be tackled, probably Trent Richardson of ‘Bama’s Crimson Tide, outperformed you in every way on the field. His attention to the details it took to keep him from the violence of being tackled, had him working so hard that the young ladies were flocking to him for his monstrous rushing games and laughing at you for the missed tackles/receptions/handoffs due to your lack of focus.n

This piece has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with sex or sexual predators. rnrnThe young lady’s skirt is the appropriate length given her age per the photo accompanying the linked MSNBC article. I very seriously doubt the dance routine or cheer she was asked to do by her coach was remotely sexual in nature, but rather more a simple dance with a harmless shake. rnrnI applaud anyone who stands up for what they believe in and am vehemently against any kind of exploitation of children. rnrnThe media ran with this story because they could sensationalize it and make it seem far bigger and far worse than it really is. Basically a girl didn’t want to do what the coach and the rest of the cheerleaders were doing because she didn’t want to. The fact that it involved a simple hip shake is what made everyone go nuts. rnrnThe point I was trying to make, albeit somewhat in a humorous wayrnwas that too often these days it seems like people sign up for teams, clubs, groups, jobs etc….without either a) knowing what is fully expected of them b) taking the time to learn fully about the organization or understanding the organization’s purpose c) caring about the history and traditions of a group and just bucking the trend or customs when they feel like it.rnrnThat being said, TTP is not always about everyone agreeing with eachother and that is what makes this forum fun and valuable. rnrnThanks for rolling with us!

To you, the story has nothing to do with sexual predators…But that’s because you’re not a pedophile. You don’t see the world that way, so to you, it’s no big deal. But again…You’re just gonna have to trust me on this one. I fought sexual predators tooth and nail nearly full-time for over five years. I’ve given seminars to law enforcement organizations, and served as both a go-to media authority and an expert court witness. I really do know what I’m talking about. And predators need zero encouragement. ZEE. RO. Even a perfectly-appropriately dressed kid in jeans and a sweater is a target for a dedicated one. So, to sexualize an eleven year old in this way is moth-and-flame time to them.

I more than believe you brother, but when I write a tongue in cheek piece I don’t really consider the perspecive of the criminal mind. Like if I did a piece on banks, I’m not sweating the safe crackers thoughts on it. My motives in writing the piece are above. But I definitely get your point. That being said, if we let the sick thoughts of pedophiles dictate what kids wear we’d never be able to take them to the beach or pool. Thanks for rolling with us.

I see that you are focusing on the attire for the cheer. My focus was on the language. It doesn’t matter what the girls are wearing. A predator could see them in full pajamas with the sock feet and a hood and it still would be a sexually charged cheer due to the language. A girl “shaking her booty” is asking others to appreciate her heiny. Asking others to imagine it without the full coverage. The issue at stake is not the costume this time, it is the cheer.
