Thinking About … Exile on Main St.

My favorite Stones album is Some Girls. The disco era. How much fun was that!

  • Alan Brand

The only Stones album I've bought more than once was their first (3 UK vinyl, including an original pressing never played, plus 1x cd)

My favorite albums are Sticky Fingers and Beggars Banquet

It's a great record. And even more wonderful is that it is a double lp.
I like it because it's not overly commercial, i don't think they were playing to or for anyone but themselves their friends and their craft.

The tone and ambiance make the recording a rare gem as well.

Oddly though, like a lot of work by the Beatles & Dylan, i have heard it almost too many times. There is a great deal of music waiting to be discovered, even from back in the day. So much over looked quality.

It's a treat to find music you dig you never heard before. And i'd recommend this record for anyone working in a band. especially guitar players. You can learn a lot about rhythm, dynamics, power etc. How to play w/ other instruments.

    And yes, analogue is better.

You named four of my five favorite Stones Albums, leaving out Some Girls. Whether Exile is better than any of the others depends on the day.

'Exile On Main Street' is a great album. Is it the Stone's best? I don't think so. I think that goes to 'Beggars Banquet'. But how can you really say that there's a best Stones album? I listened to the Stones through the seventies and then stopped. The sixties and seventies were there best years.

“In the bar, you're getting drunk. Ain't in luck. Ain't in love.”

Yeah, I can relate to that.

Get your Ya-Ya's out is clearly the best because they are performing live. Mick Taylor laid down the leads that make it such a powerful record. Mick Taylor and Brian Jones were the soul of the Stones. Jagger and Richards are just along for the ride. They should be ashamed of how they have stiffed Mick Taylor; rot in hell you no talent thieving assholes. Today they are just an embarassment. If you are in your 60's and signing young women you are a pederast.

Beggar's Banquet is/was/always will be THE BEST!!!!
