Thinking About … Freedom from Facebook

We want to know what you "think" about. These short "yes/no/don't care" surveys provide another way for TTP readers to learn, share, and blast off.

Thinking About … Freedom from Facebook

Is it reasonable for employers to ask to be friended as part of the selection process at interview time when hiring ( so they can see your private life)

“Do you believe the urban legend that Facebook is in cahoots with the government to track and control society?”u00a0 nnNo.u00a0 That’s what Google is for.n

  • Crazy

I would say no, but then I don’t use my real name anywhere on the internet.u00a0 I would tell a potential employer I didn’t have FB or any other media thingy. nI also don’t post anything I wouldn’t say to someones face. nIf you are stupid enough to post on FB about alcohol and drug fueled parties, don’t get all shocked and shaken when it comes back to bite you in the ass.

I find it totally reasonable, given this day and age.u00a0 If a potential employee is dumb enough to post stupid (and sometimes incriminating) pics or comments, I wouldn’t want to hire him or her.u00a0 If they cannot practice discretion in their own life, how inattentive will they be with the company’s sensitive info and what-not?
