Thinking About … Glen Campbell

Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease.u00a0 Thank you for this tribute to one suffering.u00a0 One of my favorite authors, Terry Pratchett, suffers from this as well.u00a0 It is painful to see his interviews and heart wrenching to see him give a speech through another’s voice.u00a0 He can still write, but he cannot keep his place well enough to give a speech himself.u00a0 He believes in Death with Dignity.u00a0 I cannot blame him.u00a0 I would not wish to be remembered as a doddering old fool when I could be remembered for what good I had done while alive.u00a0 Choosing to die when you know you have no more to give is no worse than putting down an old dog to ease his pain.u00a0 I hope Glen Campbell keeps doing what he loves for as long as he can.

There are other forms of dementia that are just as devastating as Alzheimer’s, the person who was there is no longer in control of their mind.u00a0 The personality changes and loss of memory and basic rationalu00a0functions are a great challenge for their loved ones.

Thanks for the great content today and an heroic story. u00a0The sad truth is, as you said, no prevention, no cure, no cause…we could all be victims of a tragic illness and never know it, even when it is too late.

i didn’t know he had it. I always enjoyed his TV shows, and his music. It’s amazing when you get older how time just disappears, and all of a sudden, you can count your years left. It seems there’s so many ways to lose life, to die, and so few ways to be sure it’ll last. If there was a true God, this wouldn’t happen.

In the end does it really matter as to how many forms of dementia are out there?u00a0 The fact of the matter is, there is not that much being done on the research end…..we, as a society, seem complacent with shutting those patients away and forgetting about them.u00a0 We, as a community, are much more interested in the social aspects of society and rewarding the undeserving for absolutely nothing.u00a0 There is much, much more that we could do if we were not a poorly controlled welfare society.u00a0 Stem cell research will be bypassed, and funding for other equally worthy forms of research will continue to fall to the wayside.u00a0 We are looking down a long road to recovery under the present “Dictator” we have in our highest office.u00a0 The last 3 years have been a perilous journey and we still have miles to go.u00a0

I’ve seen him in the news the last few years for wife beating.u00a0 Sounds to me like he needs a personality change.n
