Thinking About … Jack Kevorkian

  • Andy

You almost did Rosie O'Donnell? Gross.

  • Her

If im dyin, and my quality of life is going to be reeeal poor, well, shut it down…

  • Bob

Jack was right. He should be given an award and a apology!

  • Keith

Thank you for sparing us Rosie. No purpose in injecting a wart into a perfectly nice Friday.

Dr. Jack: I understand and sympathize with his compassion toward suffering. However, he is not God and will stand before Him guilty of murder. IMHO.

  • RH

Dr. Jack was doing a great thing, the medical (and legal) professions are full of crap.

Dude, if I were fucking old and infirm, I'd want to go with dignity. If it was what the person wanted, I say it's fine.

  • jujube

I may want someone with his attitude towards life and death some day.

  • Flatus1945

Wouldn't mind being “close” friends with Dr. K in about 15 – 20 years or whenever I am terminally ill…whichever comes soonest. “Doctors” are contributing to our slow deaths by all of their “kick-back” prescriptions to make us “better.”

  • Kelly

I believe in the right to choose to die. This planet is overpopulated anyway, so why should we force those in pain and without hope of comfortable survival to live? If I had a will (which at less than $20,000 a year, what is the point?) I would have a do-not-resuscitate included. I don't want to cause this planet any more problems than I already have.

  • hank hill

dr k is a true american hero happy b day dr. and many more

  • Sharon

I would love to have someone like him around if I was suffering and terminal.

  • Sharon

Leaving your worldly posessions to someone is not the only reason for a will. Do you want to be buried or cremated? Do you want to have the plugged pulled if deemed brain dead, just to name a couple.

  • Danson

Dr. Kevorkian is doing what is humane. Doctors are suppose to end suffering. If there is no way to end it, does that mean that they are supposed to keep that patient alive so that they can continue suffering?
They wanted dignity with their lives, why can they not get dignity with their deaths?

  • MrFluff

as in my opinion there should be no religions, what he does is wonderful. We as humans are so arrogant…we are better than animals, and think nothing of euthanasia for perfectly healthy animals…but when it comes to ourselves, it's not good enough. We have to let people suffer…they no longer have a choice over their lives.

  • Andrea

About your comment on 70% of Kevorkain's “clients” being women…I think women tend to accept death as a part of the circle of life easier than men. Men have a greater fear of death. Or maybe the women hated feeling useless while older men are still content to sit and watch sports and be waited upon?

  • Da Mama

I do home hospice care and therefore work only for those with no hope of recovering from their ailments. Some are so bad off and regularly state they just wish the freekin family and doctors would let them die in peace…but noooooooooo. It's worse watching them suffering more and more everyday than to let them move on peacefully most definitely!
For all you nay sayers out there chew on this…what if it were YOU constantly in pain, non- functional, wearing diapers, not even able to speak, and the pain and suffering only getting worse, with NO chance of recovery–EVER????

  • Da Mama

    DAMN STRAIGHT!!

  • Linda

I watched my mother and father in law die slow, agonizing deaths. I told my mother (we joked a lot) if she were my dog, I would have taken her to the vet and put her to sleep. She said, “Please!” In Europe, (lived in the UK the past 4 years), the tide is turning to allowing Dr. assisted suicides. I really hope the US comes around before I get there!

  • Bruce

    Live and die in peace.

  • Gregarious Aquarius

I'm all for Jack Kevorkian assisting those terminal patients who want to go out swinging…and not all dulled down on minimally sufficient pain meds. My grandmother saw pink elephants and wasn't in her right mind because of her pain. Going out on your own terms, with some lucidity is where it's at. About the 70% women, compared to men. Men don't know how to ask directions. Big babies go out fighting, or cursing. Whichever!

If God is so loving and merciful, he would let these people die peacefully themselves. But oh right, a bunch of douchebag doctors are trying to keep them alive despite clear evidence they're suffering and have a poor quality of life. So if you believe in a loving God, who doesn't want His children to suffer, why don't you believe that Kevorkian was doing God's work and helping these people not hurt and come back to God faster?

  • Pck

watching my suffering, terminally ill cat be euthanized last wk, gently going into that ‘good night’, I wondered-again-why isn’t Dr. Kevorkian isn’t celebrated, and a viable option.
