Thinking About … Men at Work

Love Men at Work! Was my fist big arena concert! INXS opened for them.

    Lets see:

    “Kookaburra” was published in 1935

Men At Work releases “Land Down Under” in 1983

Author of “Kookaburrra” dies in 1988
(Surely she had time to sue on her own)

Music copyright holder sues MAW 2009
(They cannot have just heard the song–or are they that slow in OZ?)

    Whatinhell took them so long?

SOMEONE decided to make a quick buck!!

what a load of rubbish! – ive heard the kookaburra song – and theres only a very slight similarity in the musical notes and melody line.

there are 12 notes to play around with, and theres only so many combinations possible – its enevitable that somewhere alone the line someone will randomly come out with something similar !!

not posting about Men at Work, but about songs that sound alike… what about “Smoke on the Water” and “Cat Scratch Fever”? Which came first?

  • Stormie

Granted I'm no music critic, but I am hard put to recognize any part of “Kookaburra” when I listen to “Land Down Under”. They must have really dissected that song to find a Kookaburra hiding in it.

I think “the Birthdayparty”" is the biggest band from down under. Or the Scientists, or the Beast of Bourbon.

Check out this article that gives a mathematical response to the idea that with only 12 notes, some melodies are bound to be repeated. http://www.arttimesjournal.com/music/mathematic…

Every time I hear 'Down Under' I get chills. Because me mum's from there, and I have family there, roots, but haven't been. I want to go, and listen to that song when I'm there hiking.

MAW was one of the greatest groups of all time! Saw them at the Greek Theatre back in the 80's…it was one big party! Ridiculous lawsuit brought on by ridiculous people.
