Thinking About … Plastic Bags

The closest the federal government has come to doing anything about the problem with plastic bags is enacting an anti-dumping tariff on them. Which means that they have at least temporarily and if imported from China an additional and substantially higher rate of duty. This was done over a year ago, you notice how this has slowed the import of the bags down.

What are suggestions for re-using the plastic bags other than poop containers for pets and trash bags for people?u00a0 I have reduced the number of bags I consume but I feel like I’m in a lurch if they aren’t biodegradable.u00a0

In regards to the number of the day, that’s not how petroleum works.nnWhen it’s refined, gasoline is one product, plastics, etc, are another. No matter what, you can’t refine oil entirely into one product or another, there are different distillation points for different compounds within a barrel of oil.

Don’t use them inu00a0 the first place is how I roll. I bought seven cloth usuable bags five years ago and I’m STILL using them. They’re much easier to carry stuff in and you never have to worry about them breaking.nnIf there is a Wal-Mart near you, they generally have a box at the entrance to put plastic bags in for recycling.

Our curbside recycling takes plastic bags. I give them whatever I don’t use for small garbage cans in the house or picking up dog shit. If the content is just paper and non-nasty stuff, I just just dump the trash from the can and keep the plastic bag liner for another go. Of course, once the bags have touched dog shit, I get rid of them… ;)

There are a couple of local places that have bags that state they are photodegradable. I keep taking pictures of them, but they are still here. I get paper bags when I shop for groceries, not just for packaging up my recyclables for the week, but also the pissy look the bagger gives me for making them work.
