Thinking About … Prejudice in the Pews

I actually live about 45 minutes away from Pike County, KY. As soon as I heard this on the local station I knew but HOPED that it wouldn’t become national news. Unfortunately it has. I’m pretty pissed about the whole thing. This church’s feelings (actually it was just a FORMER pastor that told the couple not to come back and sing at the church) does not reflect those of Eastern Kentucky.nnSo kudos Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church for setting Eastern Kentucky further back and making us all look like ignorant redneck morons.

Racism is hate, ignorance & fear of the unknown. It’s blind evil rage.

  • disgusted

More mayhem, murder and hatred has been fostered under the banner ofu00a0 religion than for any other reason.u00a0 And they wonder why people are atheists!

  • Thatchamoe

As a white male I would love to date a black women.u00a0 Unfortunately I have never found one that is attracted to me.u00a0 I am not a bad looking guy, and have dated many white women.u00a0 S o what is up with that?

Don’t lump all religious people under the umbrella of hippocracy and biggotry.u00a0 Itu00a0exists in all races and faithsu00a0as well as in those with au00a0lack ofu00a0faith!u00a0Biggotry exists outside of Kentucky and the South….trust me.u00a0 I have lived in New York and in the Deep South…..biggotry is not a way of life in the south, just in certain circles…..It is no different in California or Massachusetts than Alabama or North Carolina.u00a0 There are many fine people in Kentucky, and the rest of the south.u00a0 Open, honest, and genuinely friendly.u00a0 Where I live, people of all races worship together, work together, break bread together, and are friends with each other……u00a0Incidents of hatred are isolated and not well tollerated. If you want to see hatred at it’s finest I can direct you to a church in Kansas, or to a Minister (I use that term losely) in Chicago.u00a0 Jeremiah White is the epitome of biggotry as is Lewis Farenkhan and Al Sharpton.

I second everything you said. :-)

I’m a proud to be from Louisville and know the Commonwealth is full of wonderful people. u00a0This was just one of those stories that was so mind blowing I had to discuss it no matter where it occurred.u00a0nnI did think the same thing though when I first saw the headline in the news and thought “please don’t be in Kentucky, please don’t be in Kentucky, please don’t be in Kentucky….damn!”I also lived in Mississippi for 2 wonderful years and have many great friends there who are terrific people. u00a0I don’t look at this so much as a state story or a Southern story or issue, but just one that is so incredibly sad and pathetic.Any church that doesn’t believe ALL are welcome is not a church, it’s more like a club for the self-righteous who interpret the Bible to promote their own agenda.

Could not agree more.u00a0 Truthfully, crap comes in all kinds of wrappers……Hell, that could have come out of New Jersey, Idaho, Nevada, or Florida…..andu00a0there’s a lotu00a0moreu00a0of this typeu00a0of ignorance out there than the biasedu00a0mainstream media exposes.u00a0 Too oftenu00a0NBC, CNN, CBS, etc. practices “selective broadcasting.”u00a0 A good example was the thoughtless gaffu00a0about Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel byu00a0our jerkoff prez andu00a0thatu00a0jackass Sarkozy.u00a0Yeah, I know….I managed to drag Obama into another of my rants….but I have been pretty well behaved lately on TP…….because I enjoy it and am aware of your incredible intelligence. Not to mention youru00a0phenomenal wit and knack for my kind of sarcasam.u00a0 But stupidity comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, creeds and national origins.u00a0 We just happen to be lucky enough to have a President who fits intou00a0each of those categories.u00a0 Damn, I feel better after this rant!!

  • yankeepizzabaker

BTW….that was in response to Chris’ post.

  • SickOfShit

I believe you mean Jeremiah Wright (unless you know something about the soccer player I don’t) and Farenkhan’s first name is spelled Louis. I could go on my own rant poking holes in your Fox News-regurgitatedu00a0rants, but when you can’t even fact-check your own posts, you do a pretty good job yourself. What I will reply to is your “lump”-ing comment… the initial comment is true; virtually every war ever fought stems from religion and while it’s true atheists have extremists, I know of very few instances where an atheist murdered someone because of their religious beliefs (especially since there are actually atheist churches… but that’s a whole other form ofu00a0hypocrisy). Me, personally, I’m neither atheist nor do I associate myself any one religion. My outlook on religion; believe what you believe but 1.) don’t force it on me (or anyone) and 2.) Don’t fucking KILL (or even fight with) anyone about it (debate? fine), after all YOU could be the wrong one.

I cannot see how anyone could have an issue with an interracial relationship.u00a0 My dad is white, my mom is Japanese.u00a0 Being raised as a navy brat, I’ve grown up seeing plenty of other interracial families.u00a0 Inbreeding is bad, right?u00a0 Outbreeding is good…u00a0 It gave us Jessica Alba, Rasheeda Jones, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Tilley, just to name a few.

  • yankeepizzabaker

SOS….sorry to have offended you with my lack “fact checking.”u00a0 White vs Wright, was an error that I should have caught.u00a0 I don’t bother to check the spelling every time I post, and I guess I should. Frankly, I could give a RAT’S ASS (check the spelling…….RAT’S ASS….. ‘ to show possession) less how that SOB Farenkhan spells his first name!u00a0Fox regurgitation or not….did you see the “open” microphone comments made by those two on any of the major networks?u00a0 If you did, let me know which one and when it aired.u00a0 If youu00a0can notu00a0see the absolute bias for Obama on the networks, then you are content with having your opinions directed by others…..there is no objective reporting by the big 3…..I don’t need anyone, including FOX, making my decisions for me.u00a0 I am insulted by what I see….as well as don’t see. As for your religion, that is your business and I agree totally with what you said about forcing beliefs on others…………….that includes Islam!u00a0 Frankly, you and I have the religion issue in common.u00a0 Does THAT bother you?u00a0 I hope so.

  • SickOfShit

well, if you want to get literal I believe you mean you COULDN’T give a rat’s ass… The spelling (and above grammar) corrections were meant as jest, so I’m sorry it didn’t come out that way (what with the Fox news comment immediately following).u00a0As for news, I frankly very rarely watch any one news source because they’re ALL bias, I gather as much info as I can and form my own opinions.u00a0I do agree that Farenkhan and Wright are both quite racist, I do disagree with Sharpton being as racist as them, though. I just found it interesting that you spoke of the epitome of racism andu00a0mentionedu00a0three black Obama supporters as opposed to, say, the various white-supremacistu00a0groups around the country. Hitler would be another (albiet obvious) good example. As for the religious discussion at hand, I’m glad you agree with me, doesn’t both me at all.
