Thinking About … Real Trees

  • Stringbelly

Used in a sentence: Calling au00a0Yule tree a “Christmas tree” is as ludicrous as calling a Hanukkah menorah a “holiday candle holder.” Call it whatever you want. It is another co-opted Christmas tradition.

  • Cobrajon

stringbelly; May your eggnog be as sour as you. Merry Christmas everybody!!

  • Cougashika

As George Carlin once said: “Hey, hell is like lighting fire to a million Christmas trees and jumping in the middle, y’know?” When I buy a real tree I chop it up and save the pieces for the fireplace.

I will start by stating that I hope every reader enjoys whatever holiday they celebrate no matter what the reason.u00a0 I will continue to point out that most Christian holidays were created by the largest church of the time in order to convert more “pagans”.u00a0 The day of Christmas was not listed in any place as the original birth timeu00a0of Christ.u00a0 The timing was determined by when other holidays were being celebrated; most notably a Roman holiday.u00a0 No where in the Bible is it stated that all are supposed to worship the birth of Christ or his discovery by the “3 wise men”.u00a0 We began celebrating to get more people into the church under a false guise of belief.u00a0 Easter has a similar story.u00a0 I admit that I celebrate because I like to feed off the excitement of the season and have a reason to give & receive.u00a0u00a0 Since my parents brought me up on capitalism and Christ-worship, I will call it Christmas.u00a0 Since my grandmother is still a Catholic, I will wish her a very merry Christmas.u00a0 I will enjoy the excitement, the food and the gifts.u00a0 I will not pray.u00a0 Today is the day of the Winter Solstice.u00a0 I will email a friend and wish her a happy holiday.u00a0 She is a witch and will be celebrating today.u00a0 I sent my Jewish friends a holiday greeting.u00a0 I do not yet have a friend who celebrates Kwanzaa, but if it ever happens I will wish them a happy holiday.u00a0 Enjoy your celebrations, no matter the reason.

I am Jewish.u00a0 I have never, nor has our Community in my hometown, objected to the celebration of Christmas.u00a0 We believe it to be a most beautiful, reverent Holy Day.u00a0 Though we do not celbrate it, we do find it to be a time when Christians and Jews come together.u00a0 My wife and I have a tradition where we drive through our town and look at Christmas decorations.u00a0 During the true HIGH Holy Days of our Religion (Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Passover) we have our Christian friends celebrate with us.u00a0 During Thanksgiving ( of most importance to Jews) we have joint services with the First United Methodist Church (services one year at our place of worship and the next year at First United Methodist).u00a0 On Christmas, members of our Temple volunteer at the Salvation Army to help feed those in need…….we also contribute to many Christian Causes…..and we are not Messianic Jews.u00a0 I truly appreciate youru00a0u00a0comment and wishes above.u00a0 Thank you.
