Thinking About … Sammy Hagar

  • Pg1129

Saw Sammy’s first ever performance at Madison Sq. Garden. This was pre-Van Halen-I think he was billed as The Sammy Hagar Band, backing up BOSTON in the late ’70′s.Anyway,me and my bud were pretty lit, waitin’ for Boston….we also had front row center-I mean Section A Row 1 Seat 1,back in the days when you could put your hands right on the stage. My friend Jimmy didn’t care much for Sammy and was givin’ it to him pretty good throughout the set. Finally,Sammy’d had enough, and he went off out loud to my friend but on mike so the whole Garden heard:”I hear they say you gotta show somethin’ when you play NYC”,and he starts doin’ a Jim Morrison right down to his pubes, which I didn’t really care to see close up….now my friend really let loose-it was pretty funny. Finally,Sammy pulled his pants back on(Thank God!),thinking better of the consequences.Gotta hand it to him-he had BALLS! I’m just thankful I didn’t have to see’em……lol

How come no mention of Chickenfoot? Sammy’s nowhere near done yet.

Couldn’t cram it all in. We have the Chickenfoot record, good stuff.

Read about that happening in the book. He says the crowd booed him off stage. What a trip that you were there.

Saw Sammy with Ted Nugent at the 2000 Whiplash Bash in Detroit! Will never forget that New Year’s Eve! Rock on, Red Rocker!

When Sammy started with VH and sang about “it’s got what it takes” I thought, oh, great – beer commercial lyrics! I hope he goes for another 30-odd years. Maybe go on tour with Leonard Cohen.

Yeah, only in the book, this happened at a Kiss show.
