Thinking About … Simon and Garfunkel

I love his music and he is a musical genius, but he also has short-man syndrome.u00a0 In a biography of Douglas Adams (author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a trilogy in 5 parts) I read that he was invited to meet Paul Simon.u00a0 The invitation was turned down when it was found that Douglas was over 6 feet tall.u00a0 For all of his genius, Paul Simon cannot stand his stature.

It is a shame that physical stature impacts so many people.u00a0 There have been many notable people who were short.u00a0 Napoleon Bonaparte is one of the most well known.u00a0 Some people may not have realizedu00a0 it but Beethoven was short, as was Igo Stravinsky.u00a0 Also in the arts….Pablo Picaso, Auguste Rodin.u00a0 In politics….James Madison, and Martin Luther King…..Gus Grissom the Astronaut, and so many in show biz that it is not funny….Al Pacino, Humphrey Bogart, and Stephen Spielberg to name a few.u00a0 None of these people were short of talent…..but I am certain that they have been singled out at some point in their lives…..and made to feel less than adequate.u00a0Unfortunately, that isu00a0one of thoseu00a0unfair social perceptions that many people have……..all Southerners are dumb, nall northerners are loud and profane, all West Coast dwellers are liberal……those aren’t true are they?
