Thinking About … SPAM

  • Ricepython

No mention of Monty Python? Spam, spam, with eggs and spam?

  • http://www.sassie.net/ mjgolli

I prefer spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, baked beans, spam, spam, spam…nnNor any mention of the Python play “Spamalot”?

  • http://www.sassie.net/ mjgolli

Every time I go to the grocery and walk down the aisle of potted meat products I get queasy upon seeing the variety of wierd meat stuff. Vienna sausages, pork brains in milk, Spam, Treet, etc., etc.nnIf only Cisco could make a firewall to filter out that shit.

  • Swaag

    Wonderful Spam!!~~~

  • Anonymous

Mmmm, spam…u00a0 Reading that Mother Jones article has not dampened my enthusiasm for spam.u00a0 In fact, I am going to have to get more.u00a0 Slice it thin and fry it up good and crispy, its like lean, meaty bacon.u00a0 Or bake it like a ham, including the pineapple and cloves on top.u00a0 Its good munchie-food.u00a0 Any more spam fans out there in TTP-land?u00a0 How do you enjoy it?

  • Yankeepizzabaker

It must be hell living such a boring life……never having eaten Vienna Sausages right out of the can while fishing.u00a0 Pan fried Spam sandwiches, Spam with fried eggs, Deviled Ham on Ritz Crackers……..bet you were never in the military were you?

  • http://www.sassie.net/ mjgolli

On the contrary. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean I have not eaten it. These days I preferu00a0what littleu00a0meatu00a0I consume to be less interesting…less processed, less salt, less nitrates. My grandfather was a big fan of vienna sausages, in fact, and I have indeedu00a0eaten them with him whilst fishing. My grandmother used to make pan-fried spam sandwiches that I would eat, as well.nnBoring life? If the excitement of life is based on the selection of potted meat products then I guess I do live a boring life. I will stick with my boring fresh cut porterhouse steaks and pathetic freshly ground burgers…

  • Yankeepizzabaker

Ah, so you have lived.u00a0 I am in total agreement about about what is actually in our processed foods…….I cleaned up my eating habits about 9 years ago and I hope I did not wait too long.u00a0 My wife and I could become vegetarians tomorrow, unfortunately they have their own risk factor, as evidenced in the past few years.u00a0 So, really what is safe?u00a0u00a0Iu00a0probably like a good porterhouse as much as you……and a real burger, yep.u00a0 I apologize if I offended you, Iu00a0was only trying to have some fun.u00a0 I tend to do that from time to time on this site. Get out there this weekend, put your flag out,u00a0fire up the grill,u00a0and throw on some slabs of ribs…..now, that is what it’s all about.u00a0

  • Crazy

Spam is one of the greatest inventions in history! nLove it, always have it on hand. Also love Vienna Sausages and Potted meat.nI can do the healthy eating buy sometimes you have tou00a0walk on the wild side and enjoy unrecognisable meat products.

  • Crazy

Right out of the can in a sandwich, with cheese and crackers, fried crispy around the edges or just slice it in the can and eat it off the knife.

  • yankeepizzabaker

Correct……As hard as I try, I can not walk away from some things and damnit…..Spam, Vienna Sausage, Potted meat, and Sardines are three of those things…..you must be from the South, just as I am…..Yankeepizzabaker is kind of deceptive.u00a0 I actually happen to be in the State where football is a Religion….any guesses?

  • yankeepizzabaker

To Crazy and anyone else who ventures here…..I hope your 4th is wonderful, and safe……we have a great Country here….we just have to reclaim it!!!!

  • Bigdoc13

Football a religion? You must be in Texas. I am in Big”D” myself. B y the way,I hate football. Just sayin’

  • Anonymous

Oh man, you made me remember always throwing some Beanie Wienies and Vienna Sausages into my ruck for the field.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SUNLEMN3N4OOQRHY7P2IJLC6VI Russ

Spam is OK, but I prefer Armour Treet.

  • yankeepizzabaker

You are correct about football being a religion in Texas…..but there’s one other State equally as caught up in it…….Alabaman

  • http://www.sassie.net/ mjgolli

Nah, you’re ok. I have to apologise, I was in a bitchy mood that day … the holiday could not have come fast enough!nnLike you, a few years back I took a good lo0k at what I was eating, too. I cut down on meats as a whole, as well as processed foods, and started trying to eat fresh items. Like you, I believe that I could become a vegetarian. In fact, a friend of mine that is Seventh Day Adventist keeps trying to indoctrinate me into the vegetarian army. ;) As far as food is concerned, nothing is truly safe, especially if it goes through more and more hands. Unfortunately, though, you cannot even be certain of ‘organic’ produce or even stuff you grow yourself.nnI have eaten my fair share of Spam, and while it would be far from my first choice in eats, it is not what turned me off of canned meats as a whole. My grandparents and mother love to eat salmon patties … from canned salmon … not only does it stink up the house, some of the weird shit that I have seen come out of one of those cans … omg. I love salmon, too! Salmon steaks, salmon sushi (philadelphia rolls FTW!) … but canned salmon — NO WAY!nn:)

  • Crazy

They taste pretty much the same to me, I will buy which ever one has the best price that day.

  • Crazy

No, I’m notu00a0 from the south.nn”we have a great Country here….we just have to reclaim it!!!!”nI’m Indian, you don’t even want to get me started on this one.n

  • yankeepizzabaker

Absolutely…..I can eat my weight in fresh salmon….Costco has pretty good salmon for our area and I cedar plank it on our grill.u00a0 The best salmon I have ever had in my entire life was in Victoria British Columbia and in Seattle.u00a0 Damn, if you are eating less than great salmon and think you are in Seattle, check your travel agenda.u00a0 You don’t owe me any apologies.u00a0 I am just prone to try and generate some response.u00a0 I love “Toilet Paper (generally speaking) but sometimes there’s no real UMMPH in their issues.u00a0 I know I have offened some and truthfully never intended to do so.u00a0 I just want to generate some real response. Honestly, I appreciated everything youu00a0 said, because you responded. You know, without open dialogue we just seem to fall into that mundane routine of accepting everything as it is presented.u00a0 You have Moxie!!!

  • yankeepizzabaker

I will not get you started…..I have a great deal of Cherokee in me on my mother’s side.

  • yankeepizzabaker

I doubt that this is still an active blog…..Spam does have a shelf life!! However, if “Crazy” and “mjgoli” are still out there give me a “holler.”u00a0
