Thinking About … Taos

  • Eduardo

I just read your article on Taos and I am planning a trip there as a result. I found a different hotel that I’m going to but you sold me on Taos. Thanks

Good one guys! I live in Southern New Mexico, there is really no place like NM. Just out of high school, me and my buds would take these 4 or 5 day ski trips around presidents day using discount ski cards we’d get hit Taos, Red Rio, Angelfire and such. We stayed in a youth hostel just outside Taos in Pilar. That place used to have composting toilets, you’d feel like it was your duty to save your duty for getting back to the room. For the enviroment ya know?!

I love Taos! It is an amazing location with wild artists. Check out the Earth Ships if you go!

Indeed one of my most cherished memories is the long, winding road into Toas on my Harley, late in August as the sun was just beginning to set.

I grew up in Taos and it really is an incredible town. I’ve been reading ttp for a while now and i’ve always enjoyed it. Then to see this article, its awesome. i’ll probably be a lifelong reader now.

Taos is special in many ways, food, art, scenery, lacking the darling atmosphere of Santa Fe. One resturant I’d recommend (and this is NOT a commercial” is Joseph’s Tabel for dinner, and on the main street there is a kitchen that serves real honest to goodness homecooked food that sticks to your ribs. And so you know, for you out-of-staters, if someone asks you “green or red?”, they are referring to which chili you prefer. rnAs an Albuquerqueian, a get-away to Taos is always a treat. Lots for the kiddo’s to do and see too!

I went to Josephs table..actually a great stumble on my way to another…it was a fabulous meal and what you hope to find when out exploring….

Awesome, Eduardo. Let us know your trip goes.

Word up John! Killer town to have grown up in. Thanks for rolling with us!

Tim’s Stray Dog Cantina was a good hang with cool beers too.

Did you find the mythical martini tree on the mountain when you were skiing. We did, but I can’t confirm if it was legit or our guide just pulling our leg. Real martinis though.

Definitly liked the Rio Grand Gorge, I didn’t get to spend any time in town but I know where to go now. Thanks for the Taos article, just ordered my TTP T-Shirt for that one.

i spent a week in taos in 2008 in my gutter punk hobo days between 3 months in santa fe and a month of continuous wandering through colorado (in a c shape). didnt spend as much time in the town as i did in the state park a few miles east, but yes, it is a great town, and i met a friend that i ended up traveling with for the next month or so in colorado.

We moved to Taos in 2008 and it truly is a spiritual place. FYI, Joseph’s Table went out of biz, but plenty of others include Orlando’s and Graham’s Grill. The mountain already has snow and the ski is great.nntom in Taos

Never been to Taos, but got picked up by a guy outside Gallup who spent the night with a woman who just quit the “nunnery” and was out for a good time. Hello Rick Lowry wherever you are.
