Thinking About … Teen Pregnancy

I think you are missing the point about girls (and boys) at this particular school or this whole region for that matter. The atmosphere is one of simply not caring, sometimes even wanting to get pregnant for the financial benefits of being a poor, unwed, teenage mother. The majority of these same girls are a product of a teenage mother as well. Even if they know who the father is they wont disclose his identity. They are well aware that they will collect more money as well as housing and daycare from the government, than they would EVER get from the “baby’s daddy”. I live in the “Dirty South” and I know these people. My co-worker has 7 kids with 4 different women and he lives with his mother… and they all live in the same trailer park! It really makes me mad every time I get reminded about our welfare system. The same one that encourages this type of behavior in the form of monetary payments and benefits!

The dudes at TTP didn’t impregnate anyone as a teen because it is very hard (no pun intended) to cause a pregnancy by beating off.

DO YOU SUPPOSE THE EMPTY V (MTV) CHANNEL AIRING TEEN MOMS AND OTHER RETARDED SHOWS HAS NO IMPACT ON THESE FRAGILE MINDS. PARENTS SHARE IN THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THESE KIDS AND YET THEY IGNORE IT.

MTV has a program about the mentally disabled?

Are you guys dirty in the south because you have no running water? Once you get it in your area, you are going to love it.

Who knows about the kids at that school … maybe they are all fundamentalist christians who believe that masturbation is bad/sinful.n80% Wow!

  • Ibell

I am an MD and I live in Memphis. The school has a program for pregnant teens and that is why there are so many there. They are pregnant and choose to go to that school in order to continue their education. There is no shortage of Ob Gyns. The person that said that is wrong. wrong. wrong.

Wow Ivan. All three of your comments make you sound like a real dick with ears. How is seventh grade treating you this year?

Will we reach a point where the girls are uncaring about safe sex(like we used to be) and the boys will be locking knees together? Ahh, modern days….

It’s the same problem in the North. I recently moved out of CT and there was a family I knew there that behaved in much the same manner as you describe. A 16 year old daughter of a welfare mother got pregnant and her Mom was very happy. More welfare dollars for the family. She is encouraging her younger daughter to do the same. Her younger daughter is now 12 and I have reason to believe that she is already sexually active. Our entertainment glorifies this behavior. It does not condemn it. Therefore, it will continue until someone tells them that their little treasures are not so cute and tells them loudly that they are a burden, not a gift. We are so concerned in Political Correctness that we don’t make it a point to condemn this behavior. We are so concerned that the little baby will grow up “feeling bad” that we do everything we can to make their accidental existance acceptable. It disgusts me. I was a promiscuous teen, but I was careful to use birth control. I was on the pill at 16 and was careful about taking it every day. I knew I couldn’t really trust my boys to always put on a rubber and use it correctly. I did not wish to become pregnant, so I made certain that I didn’t. Too many people keep on saying “that couldn’t happen to me”. They need to wake up.

We have had it a couple of years now, but it has yet to catch on. Seems like a fad to me?

  • Trey

You mention the influence of the cultural entertainment as it may affect the youth. Just Friday night there was the newest episode of “My Big Fat Redneck Wedding”, and just so happens I know these people. They live about 10 miles or so from my family. The groom, JB, is a mainiac. He cant keep a job, thinks it is funny when he goes “mudding” and blows the engine in his truck when his new bride and baby have to call friends for transportation. I have personally fired him, when he once worked for me as he has been run out of every workplace he has ever been employed. nnThe networks know that this creap sells. Sad…

  • Trey

ha-ha… I said “mainiac”! Is that a crazy person from maine? nnOops?

  • Trey

Chris, I was just thinking the same thing!nThanks!

I’m a teacher in Athens, Greece and we have the same problem here! I find it unacceptable that parents don’t educate their kids about safe sex..since the schools here don’t have sex ed classes like we did in the States..it’s a growing problem. Just the other day one of my students told me about her 15 year old friend getting pregnant and being afraid to talk to her parents who are teachers themselves..WAKE UP PARENTS!!! WE ARE IN THE YEAR 2011!!! TALK TO YOUR KIDS!!!!!!!!!!
