Thinking About … Venice Beach

I love Venice. When I go to the beach, I go to Venice because it is so alive. I’m currently in a musical in Venice and rather than drive during rush hour to get to the stage, I go early and hang out on the beach and the strand. It’s better than drugs.

Dennis Hopper actually lives there. The Dude in The Big Lebowski lived there. What else do you need to know? Venice High has a statue of alumna Myrna Loy in front (sculpted BEFORE she became a movie star). Breakfast at the Sidewalk Cafe is a must — on the boardwalk for great people watching.

I got my first toe ring in Venice Beach, in 1999.

I LOVE Venice Beach – such a freak show with beautiful weather!

Grew up in and around Venice beach and the canals in the 60′s when Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention played free concerts off and old pier and Jim wandered aimlessly. Was a speed and junkie heaven then and the Venice Div of the LAPD liked to take hippies for a ride and give them haircuts for no good reason, Later they cleaned it up and re-nicked named it “Muscle Beach” It was still a pit even then. Haven’t been there in years but hope the big one washes it all the way into the sea

  • VG

Stroll on the canals, if you can find them – yes, they’re there, why do you think it’s called ‘Venice’?
