Thinking About … South Park and Islam

  • George Carlin

I think they should shut the f#@%ck up and take the joke.

  • Greg

It’s hard enough to make it every day with a smile, it would be impossible to do without laughter. The rag heads need to lighten up and have a beer….oops! can’t do that can we.

  • retrorambler

I am disgusted with Comedy Central! They censored that episode of South Park. That is absurd! I hope they are going to go back and put a black box over Jesus in all of the old episodes. All because one religion can’t take a joke or else they will blow you up? STUPID

  • Geoff

This episode was great. Technically they don’t show Mohammed, they only allude to him. And they don’t actually make fun of Mohammed, they make fun of the situation the Islamic extremists have created.

Why can these radicals, living in New York, make death threats against some one with nothing being done.If I did this I would be arrested and questioned at the very least. WTF?

  • http://? keith wiliams

Did Adam and Eve have navels? Why?

  • KendoTek

Do not cave in to the extremists… what’s next? Do we all start eating haalal and praying to Mecca out of fear of death threats? What would Jesus, Buddah, Krishna, Joseph Smith, Lao Tsu and Sea-man have to say? I bet comedy central is so scared that they even pulled the Super Best Friends episode from their site.

  • E

Comedy Central won’t air it again, and they have restricted it being on the internet.
Come on! They weren’t making fun of the religion, they were poking fun at the people that take it too seriously!
People need to step back, take a deep breath and laugh with the rest of us.

  • Mushroom Cop

We keep hearing about followers of Islam being peace loving, yet where are these “peace lovers” when the militants strike out against “non-believers?” At some point in time countries, besides Israel, must start taking these people more seriously. If not, then our grandchildren’s children WILL be throwing down rugs and kneeling towards Mecca.

  • Puncastle

Here’s the problem. It is considered a sin in Islam to depict Prophet Muhammad, because the depictions of Jesus is what led to people worshipping him as a god. Jesus was only a man and people made him “divine”.

As for Muslims, you can make fun of Muslims day and night and they will not be offended. They will only smile and teach you about their religion. However, it is part of the Islamic faith to love Muhammad more than themselves. When people would insult Muhammad, his companion Omar would jump up and draw his sword. Muhammad would calm Omar down and tell him, “Let the man speak”.

Because Muslims have this great love for Muhammad, whenever someone offends him, people will jump up to defend his honor. However, the Islamic tradition is never to kill someone because they offended Muhammad.

Another thing that most people should realize is that there is no such thing as “free” speech. There are laws dictating “free” speech. For example, in Germany, it is a crime punishable by prison to deny any aspect of the holocaust.

In the U.S., inciteful or hate speech is not protected by the First Ammendment.

When a comic or cartoon can incite violence, it is no longer considered free speech.

Although most religious “humor” is not benign, and I do not condone those that use such humor to debase one’s beliefs over another, South Park does not do that: South Park shows the universality of stupidity and fear.

At the same time any religion that does not show respect for another religion (or person) does not deserve respect. No fundamentalist believer (Christian, or Muslim or other) should be afforded the respect they demand, as they are incapable of respecting any viewpoint but their own.

A society that does not speak out against it’s fundamentalist leadership is doomed to be governed by that leadership.

It seems to me if God, Allah (or whatever name your particular religion cares to call their Supreme Being), was so offended by depictions of Muhammad or whatever the favorite prophet, the offenders would be struck down by a bolt from the blue, or perhaps a slow and painful disease. Why do these religious hypocrites seem to think it their job to do God’s enforcement? It’s just a power play, nothing more. Organized religion is 1% faith and 99% profit driven.

  • patrick zwanzig

I think they should continue to offend em. ita all in good fun, an they prank Jesus “my savior an Lord” an i still watch an i dont threaten anyone sooooo. hey whoever you are…get over it already!!!!!

  • http://www.twitter.com/themanticore Manticore

KendoTek, they HAVE pulled the Super Best Friends episode from SPStudios.

  • Dave Joneikis

Hey is it alright to yell Allah Christ instead of Jesus Christ? And what is up with a religion that worship mooses and lambs? Mooselamb religion right?

  • ssg daniel d grooms ret.

It seems interesting to me that a people who will cut off your head for there religion, want so badly to accepted by the world. I don’t think the Koran says anything about cutting heads off or world acceptance, just to worship the word of the koran and allah??

  • Hedgehog

Remember, a fanatic is someone who does what god would do, if He only had all the facts.

  • Your Mom

I don’t care who or what your particular supreme being is. I just don’t think that he, she or it wants you killing in their name. If there is a God, Allah, Buddha, whatever- they’re probably pretty pissed about the stupid things that are done in their name(s).

  • http://no Old man

Everyone takes all this sh*t too seriously. How long are you gonna be on this planet? Do you hate me because I’m a white American? F*ck you. F*ck Southpark. F*ck TTP. That feels GOOD.

Revolutionmuslim.com released information on how to or where to reach the South Park people; Their intent is to scare them because now extremists may know how to find and harm them. The work places and contact information of these “terrorists” (in the sense of people who spread terror) should be released to the public as well, I’m sure many people would like to let them know how they feel about what they’re doing.

Revolutionmuslim.com is saying that what South Park is doing is foolish and they may end up like Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh who was stabbed to death on a street in Amsterdam, Netherlands, by an Islamic extremist in 2004. I say these extremists should be informed that what they’re doing is foolish and they could end up like Saddam Hussein.

Lastly, I’d like to say that I don’t understand how it’s remotely fathomable to ask for censorship of anything while hiding behind the protection of free speech laws of the United States. South Park makes fun of any person, or religion, or situation, or current event they can find in order to provide comedic relief, this is their job and they do it well; This being the case, trying to persuade them to avoid a particular one is nearsighted and obtuse.

  • James Kendall

south park is an equal opportunity offender. cudos to them and the muslems should feel honored they were not forgotten. I do agree with George Carlin.

  • Kelly

I heartily approve of all comics who choose to blaspheem. No matter which religion they are blaspheeming, it needs to be done. Thank you, South Park for pointing out the silliness in all, no matter how you are threatened.

  • Robin

Filmmaker Theo Van Gogh’s short film Submission depicts the abuse of women in Islam. He is killed by Muslim extremists. Apparently, the assassins rudely kept their cell phones on during the film.

  • Mark

they should do an episode where everybody is censored by a black bar. that would be funny as hell…

  • Dale Mirenda

It boils down to this: We in America believe that everyone has the right to worship, or not worship, as they see fit. These radical Muslims do not. The two philosophies are too far apart to reconcile; everyone must choose which side of this simple argument is correct. Just about everyone but a radical Muslim in a free society will opt for freedom of religion. In their viewpoint, we must either convert or die.

We must resist this bunch of homicidal a-holes in every way, large and small, and that includes humiliation by humor. SatNiteLive should have a Mohamed skit every week. Teens should wear Wacky-Mohamed tees in the local shopping mall. Sitcoms should portray Mohamed as the same sort of dufus as they do the Typical American Dad. We need to drive these mentally disturbed wackos so nuts that they can no longer contain themselves, the after we identify them, neutralize their thread in whatever way is necessary.

It is no longer the Israelis alone who are in a never-ending war against Muslim extremists. If there is anything to learn from the war in the Middle East, it is that if you give them and inch, they will take your head. Our motto, then, must be “Never give an inch!”

  • Jimbo

They give EVERYONE rub!!! They are not targeting Islam to target Islam. It isn’t specific to them alone.

  • MBee

It’s too bad South Park gave in and censored that episode. The radicals, intolerant numbnuts won that round and now they’re just encoraged that they can have their way in the next demand they make. Wrong move, South Park.

  • Chip

Maybe Im missing somthing, but the censorship was part of the joke.
